GW Community Gateway Project

You can become a permanent part of the George Washington High School campus and help us give the north side a dramatic makeover!

The north entrance at GW was originally designed to be the back door of the school, but traffic patterns on the surrounding streets have changed over the years. Today the north side at GW is the main entrance for most students and virtually all visitors to the school. Members of the wider community pass through this area to use the school gyms, auditorium and the playing fields. It is where everyone takes in their first impression of our school and its community.

The GW Community Gateway Project will transform the north side of the school. The goals are to:

Provide a walkway and benches along the student drop-off driveway and upgrade the turn-around to provide a safer student drop-off area and direct route to the playing fields. Click here to purchase one of the benches.
Widen the sidewalk leading to the gym and provide a row of plantings along this sidewalk to screen the loading dock and dumpsters.
Provide a gateway structure to mark the school entrance.
Add an area for donor bricks with different sizes and colors. These bricks and pavers, inscribed with the donors’ names, will be a way for individuals, sports teams, clubs, families or businesses to become a lasting part of GW. Click here to purchase a paver.
Add trees, shrubs, grasses and other "water-wise" plantings that have good fall, winter and spring interest. Click here to dedicate one of the new trees.

The Landscaping Committee has received bids for the work and is currently working with a number of groups to raise the remaining funds.

The first phase of the project (irrigation and planting in the two areas around the pump house) was completed in Spring 2009. The donor brick area will be installed in March 2011.

We need your help!

Show your Patriot Pride by helping us raise money for this project. Buy a brick or stone paver, pay for one of the benches, or dedicate a tree on the GW campus and your family, student, or group’s name will be listed permanently on an engraved paver or bronze plaque.
